Happy Trials Necklace

Designed by Cheryl Ball

Supplies:

Amate Studios Designer Collection™

     Large Star – Silver Overlay

Liquid Fusion™ Permanent Adhesive

Aleene’s® Fast Grab™ Tacky Glue

Denim fabric or old jeans

Bandana – red – or desired color

Seeds beads – yellow

Scissors

Needle with matching thread

Masking tape

Instructions:

1. Squeeze a thin even coat of Liquid Fusion™ adhesive into star shape then pour in enough seed beads for an even layer.  Use finger to push beads into points if needed.  Set aside to dry.

2.  Cut three 1” x 36” lengths of denim fabric or from leg of jean.  Fold end of on strip in half, wrong sides together then tape to edge of table.  Repeat step with other strips, taping close to the first.  Braid strips folding fabric along the way.  When finished, wrap a piece of tape around ends to hold together.  Peel off other end from table then tape ends together to secure.  Set aside.

3.  Snip next to hem on one side of bandana then tear off hem – this will used later.

4.  Snip in about 1 1/2” from torn edge then tear off another strip.  Fray one side by pulling thread along long side, creating about ¼” of fray.

5.  Use needle and thread to sew a basting stitch on opposite side. Gather tightly then form a circle trimming length if there is extra.  Pull in a tight circle then sew a few stitched to secure.

6.  Tie hem of bandana around center of braid and knot once.  Thread on star then tie a bow to hold in place.  Place gathered round on surface then center star in place.  Apply Liquid Fusion to back of star and braid then press in place holding with tape if needed till dry.

7.  Determine length of necklace, wrap tape about 1” above then cut off excess above tape.  Cut a belt loop from jeans.  Remove tape from braid, apply glue to ends to hold together then slightly overlap and glue ends.  Hold with tape until dry.

8.  Remove tape then glue belt loop around braid to cover ends.  Let dry.

Turquoise Chip Pendant

By Terry Ricioli

Materials:

Amate Studios Double Loop Triangle pendant

Small amount of polymer clay in green or blue*

Turquoise chips, un-drilled:  about 20

Turquoise chips, drilled:  10

2 Antique silver pewter feather charms*

Clay glaze*

2 Silver eye pins

Leather cord, 1mm, black, in length desired for necklace

Silver spacers, other large-hole turquoise beads or turquoise-colored beads such as howlite

Other:  oven, tray, paintbrush, chain nose pliers, round nose pliers, wire cutters

*Sculpey® clay and glaze and TierraCast® charms used in project.

Instructions:

1. Condition a small amount of clay and press into Amate Studios pendant tray.  Use a clay cutter to slice off excess clay even with pendant tray edges.

2. Press un-drilled chips into clay surface.  Cover the surface so that the chips are pressed into the clay leaving some clay around the chips.  Remove any clay that hangs over the edge of the Amate Studios pendant tray and smooth with your finger.

3. Bake the Amate Studios pendant on a tray according to the instructions for the type of clay you use.  Let cool and apply clay glaze with a paintbrush.  Let dry.

4. Slide drilled chips and spacers onto two eye pins, making one shorter than the other.  Trim excess wire to about 3/8” and bend in a right angle above beads.  Turn a loop in the wire with the round nose pliers.  Repeat for other eye pin.  Open the loop on one end of eye pin and attach feather charm.  Close loop.  Open the loop on the other end and attach to one loop of the Amate Studios pendant.  Repeat for the other eye pin.

5. Fold leather cord in half and poke fold through the other pendant loop.  Bring ends of the cord through the leather loop and tighten.

6. If desired, knot cord above pendant and string on silver spacers and turquoise beads.  Knot again to hold in place.  Knot cords in an overhand knot to finish.

Cowgirl Bracelet

By Michal Rainsbarger

Materials:

  • Amate Designer’s Collection silver interchangeable bracelet Regular band #80800510 and square frame #80800703
  • Old scrap piece of jean fabric (light color)
  • Matte gel medium
  • Image: clip art, rubber stamp, magazine (mine was a large rubber stamp that I had to reduce)
  • 24 gauge silver German Style wire
  • 3D dimensional glue such as Magic Gloss or Diamond Glaze
  • Assorted beads: turquoise, glass, seed beads
  • Embellishments: watch part for spur, horseshoe charm with jump ring

Tools:

  • Black Micron pen 01
  • Stabilo colored pens or pencils
  • Weldbond glue
  • Small paint brush
  • Scissors
  • Wire cutters
  • Needle nose pliers

Note: if your rubber stamp is small enough to fit inside the frame you can stamp directly onto the fabric using a permanent black fabric ink. Because my stamp was too large I had to use this method of image transferring.

Instructions:

1.      Brush an even coat of gel medium onto jean fabric. Press image into wet gel medium. Let dry overnight.

2.      Peel off as much paper as possible. To remove the rest, use a small amount of water and rub the paper off entirely. All that should be left is the ink from the image. Let dry.

3.      Cut image down to fit inside the Amate Studios square frame.

4.      Define the image with the black Micron pen or add details like words or doodles. Let dry.

5.      Color the image using the Stabilo pens or colored pencils.

6.      Brush on a thin coat of gel medium. Let dry.

7.      Glue the image inside the frame with the Weldbond. Let dry.

8.      Glue the spur embellishment inside the tag with Weldbond. Let dry.

9.      Follow the manufacture’s direction on using the dimensional glue. Fill in the entire frame. Let dry.

10. Using the wire, randomly wrap the beads around the band of the bracelet.
